The golden hour painted the sky a simmering ochre, and white flower petals floated against the Blue Ridge mountains at Molly and Conner Brace’s wedding at Montalto near Charlottesville. The couple originally met at the University of Virginia, but didn’t reconnect until a fateful New York party years later.
Keswick Hall served as their HQ before the wedding, including the site of an emotional first look. The reception’s décor and food nodded to the couple’s heritages, like treats with Virginia, New Orleans, and English roots. Other unique touches included the bride’s artistry on hand-drawn elements like their Save the Date announcement, and, of course, Ralph the Best Dog walking down the aisle with the maid of honor.
After the ceremony, the celebration continued, with tinsel, cocktails, music, and dancing at this serene mountaintop retreat.
She Said, He Said
Vision?
She said: Modern yet timeless elegance meets unique and fun. Our colors were neutrals, greens, and gold—we didn’t want to overpower picturesque sunset over rolling hills.
Proposal?
He said: Molly met me at Pavilion Garden VI near UVA’s Lawn. A florist had accidentally sent her a congratulatory bouquet from friends days before, so it wasn’t a total surprise.
First look?
She said: Yes! Honestly, I felt relieved. Sometimes there is so much build up to the big day that you need your partner by your side to calm your nerves.
First dance song?
He said: “Love Like Me” by Billy Strings. The song’s lyrics speak to the enduring beauty of nature which we felt reflected both our love and the landscape of Montalto.
Cake flavor?
She said: First tier: vanilla cake with passionfruit, cream cheese frosting, and salted caramel. Second tier: vanilla cake with cookie butter, and salted caramel. Third tier: almond cake with raspberry and hazelnut buttercream. We like variety!
