Tying the knot aboard Nauticat.

Meghan and Mark’s relationship was more love at first sight than slow burn. Within a couple of months, they knew. The proposal was in Meghan’s flower and veggie garden, near where her grandfather kept horses and the couple often strolled. Afterward, the two wanted to do what they loved most: be near the water. In a decidedly non-traditional twist, they turned a faux engagement party into a surprise wedding reception aboard a luxurious 46-foot catamaran on the Rappahannock River.
It was a day filled with love that began with the couple’s morning ritual: coffee in their PJs with their beloved chihuahua, Marley, who has since passed. “Those photos of us at home and in our element are priceless,” Meghan says.
With a gorgeous breeze filling Nauticat’s sails, Capt. Steve Bland at the helm, a best friend officiating, a chocolate and raspberry cake made by a dear friend, a personal playlist, and a vegan feast shared with their loved ones, the wedding was custom made for the couple.

She Said, He Said
Vision?
She said: I was never one of those girls that had their wedding day dreamed out since they were a little girl. I always knew I wanted to do something different. I didn’t want anything traditional.
Personal touch?
He said: Being water people, we were both thrilled to be doing what we loved most on our day. Plus, one of my best friends flew out from California to officiate us.
Wedding planner or DIY?
She said: DIY champs! I’m pretty sure I messaged Steve and said, “Hey, how would you feel about us getting married on your boat?!” My mom and I rode out to the flower farm I used to work on, and I got to pick out my flowers which was also fun and special.
Wardrobe change?
She said: Yes! The most exciting part of the day was when everyone arrived at our “engagement party”—or at least they thought it was our engagement party—and we announced that we had gotten married earlier that day! So I couldn’t wear my white dress to the party or I would have given away the surprise.
Advice for the engaged?
They said: Consider your priorities. You can’t really make a wrong choice, there are pluses and minuses to anything you do. Just remember, the more intimate, the more quality time you get with the friends and family that do partake.
