October 2018 Issue

In the October issue of Virginia Living, we offer seven recipes for a harvest supper featuring a crown roast of lamb stuffed with couscous, apricot, pistachios and mint, plus a series of delicious sides and a dessert that is out of this world. We take a trip to Abingdon, where locals and out-of-towners rub shoulders everywhere you go—from fine dining spots and boutiques on historic Main Street to Thursday night jam sessions regional artisan hub Heartwood. We meet Charlottesville-based musician Sarah White who has been recording and releasing music since the ’90s, her hard to categorize sound incorporating folk, rock and indie pop; and we share the story of UVA’s Seven Society, one of the university’s oldest and most secret societies. Plus, we present State of Education, our annual special section featuring Top High Schools & Colleges, a list of 171 programs demonstrating innovation and excellence in our schools.
