Get lost at Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge

While Virginia Beach may be best known for its high-rise hotels and lively boardwalk, the city is also home to a sprawling wildlife refuge that’s a haven for wildlife. Located about 18 miles south of the resort area, Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge contains more than 9,200 acres of marshland, woodland, beaches, and dunes. Visitors can explore by foot or bike using the extensive trail system, and there’s also a canoe/kayak launch for those who’d rather explore by water. DWR.Virginia.gov
