Verdalina is One of the 50 Best Clothing Stores in America

To fellow Virginians, Richmond’s unique fashion scene is nothing new, but to be recognized nationally is groundbreaking for the River City. Verdalina, a downtown Arts District boutique, was named in “The 50 best clothing stores in America” list by The New York Times in November 2025. The mastermind behind the distinctive shop, which is relocating to Scott’s Addition soon, is Deborah Boschen, founder and owner of Verdalina since 2013.“I’m still walking on clouds,” she says, whose excitement is palpable.

Boschen began her career in retail when she bought Pink, a chic clothing shop in Carytown that she owned for 25 years. Verdalina was her follow-up venture, a sophisticated gem box featuring upscale women’s fashion, jewelry, accessories, fragrance, and tasteful home décor. Every piece in the store is produced in small batches by artisans around the world, a reflection of Boschen’s quiet insistence on quality craftsmanship and thoughtful sourcing.

Verdalina eschews trends in favor of timeless style—pieces that feel just as relevant today as they will years from now. When asked to describe her vision, Boschen says simply, “Barney’s if Audrey Hepburn shopped there.” She favors shape and color over flash, making each piece equally classy and playful. By staying true to her own artistic eye, Boschen has built something far bigger than she ever imagined—and the world has taken notice. Verdalina.com
