The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Mid-Atlantic Chapter welcomed 380 guests to One Night, their black-tie fundraiser. Held at the iconic Jefferson Hotel on Feb. 25, the event was designed not only to raise awareness of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), but also to raise money toward research and a cure. Attendees enjoyed a night of cocktails and fine dining, silent and live auctions, and dancing to live music. Inspired by stories from speakers who manage T1D on a daily basis, the evening raised more than $700,000 toward JDRF’s mission: to improve lives by accelerating life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent, and treat T1D and its complications. Treina Owen, matriarch of JDRF’s Fund A Cure Family, captured the event’s spirit with a moving speech about how her diabetes sets a warrior-example for her children—two of whom also have T1D—to never give up fighting this challenging disease. Exclaimed Owen, “I am defined by diabetes, but not defeated!”
