New Year, New NoVa Hotels to Know About

There’s a buzz in the air in Northern Virginia as the chilly New Year air settles in. Maybe it’s the new crowd of runners filling the morning sidewalks as they chase their resolutions, maybe it’s the nervous energy of residents trying to predict the next snowfall—or maybe it’s the three fabulous new hotels hitting the scene. A trio of sleek high-rise stays opened in celebratory succession throughout the fall, rising into the skylines of their respective neighborhoods like beacons beckoning: Come see me! Come stay! You won’t regret it.

For those who take them up on the offer, they’ll find the region is becoming a destination not just for its footholds in history and proximity to D.C., but for its currentness—its ability to create trends, not just latch onto them.

Refreshed in Reston

Reston welcomed a pillar of hospitality excellence with the opening of the first JW hotel in the state in September 2025. Reston, one might initially think, doesn’t have the same cosmopolitan pull as the municipalities lining the Potomac, but the area is on the rise—tech, pharmaceuticals, and other hot industries are moving in, including a Google office just steps from the new JW Reston Station. JW, Marriott’s premier luxury hotel line, is the same brand behind must-stays like a Venice hotel on its own private island and overwater villas in the Maldives.

In Reston, the new JW pulls off a similar wow factor—even without shimmering tropical waters. Situated in a complex thrumming with innovation and excitement, the hotel’s crown jewel is its ability to provide respite: a break from the go, go, go amid a lot of go, go, go. It does this through carefully curated spaces and experiences, from the cozy JW Members Lounge—where fireplaces, food, and drink are always available—to JW-exclusive Mindful Rooms, intentionally designed for meditation and wellness rituals with yoga mats, ankle weights, sweeping floor-to-ceiling windows, and mirrored walls for practice.

Ask the staff what excites them most, though, and you’ll likely hear about the garden terrace. Verdant, edible greenery spills from planters amid plush seating and firepits, with plants selected for use in the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, The Simon. The terrace is also prized simply for the pleasure of being outside, especially with views of modern art installations throughout Reston Station, including “Building Bridges,” an empowering sculpture by Italian artist Lorenzo Quinn. Six hands, grasped in pairs, form an arc overhead—a smaller replica of Quinn’s Venice installation. The view also takes in VIDA, a ritzy fitness center that feels more like a social wellness club than a gym.

Downstairs at The Simon, that sense of respite is plated and devoured. Executive Chef Anthony DiGregorio offers an expansive menu that glides through sea, land, and sky, anchored by local and regional ingredients. Even the wine list is Virginia-kissed, with bottles from vineyards like Orange County’s Barboursville Vineyards, which will host a 50th anniversary exclusive wine dinner at The Simon on February 26.

The synergy of art, food, and physical wellness is undeniable here—a little slice of other-worldliness in an up-and-coming NoVa hub.

AC-tive in Arlington

If you haven’t heard that Arlington’s National Landing neighborhood is the county’s new hot spot for recreation and community, you’re behind. Ongoing beautification and economic development have transformed the area into a lively destination for shopping, movies, drinks, dinner, music, hikes—and somehow, more. Marriott’s AC Hotel Arlington National Landing, which opened last August, slipped seamlessly into this new era.

“The hotel becomes not just a place to stay but a gathering place for the neighborhood,” said general manager Ben Joseph at the opening reception.

The scene around him proved the point: late-summer air, a gentle breeze, jazz musicians, and community members filling the first-floor outdoor terrace with laughter and conversation. Inside, plates piled high with Spanish-inspired bites from Executive Chef Anoop Nathoo—a nod to the AC brand’s Iberian roots.

With more than 50 restaurants within a third of a mile and a Metro station just one block away, the hotel delivers on centrality, energy, and momentum.

Keyed In

Completing the trio is the Hilton Arlington Rosslyn The Key: a glittering, reflective sight of shining windows and sharp lines, perched at the foot of the Francis Scott Key Bridge over the Potomac. With river, monument, and skyline views, it’s a destination only NoVa could provide.

Rosslyn, like National Landing, hums with community happenings and favorite haunts—and the Key’s prime location offers easy access to culinary gems like food hall UPSIDE on Moore, as well as cultural touchstones including the Air Force Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.

When luxury hotels like these arrive, it means something. For Virginia, it signals that the Northern region is as alive as ever—with no sign of slowing down.
