Alexandra Hambrick grew up a self-described “flower child” in Virginia’s bucolic Loudoun County. So even though Landey Patton was an ocean away when they first met, it seems quite natural that flowers would prove to be the initial bridge between the future bride and groom. The daughter of a television news anchor and a floral design expert, Alexandra was leaving to study abroad in London in 2009 when her mother spoke to her fellow Leesburg Garden Club member, Catharine Patton, whose sons were living in London. The women arranged for their children to meet. “It was truly special to know such a great family while living in a new place so far from home,” says Alexandra. But it wasn’t until two years later, after Landey and Alexandra had pursued other global adventures—she studying in Italy, he hiking in New Zealand—that they “truly fell for each other.” And after accepting Landey’s proposal of marriage in Westminster Abbey in April 2013, Alexandra began planning their May 2014 nuptials stateside. Flowers played a starring role in the ceremony at Alexandra’s childhood church in Upperville and in the reception at her parents’ home, Highholdborne Estate, in Bluemont. Appropriately adorned with a crown of blossoms created by her mother, Alexandra says her mother also made sure the couple and their guests were surrounded by her favorite flowers, peonies, snipped from friends’ gardens.
