Morgan Taylor & Taylor Pilkington

May 25, 2014 • Montalto, Charlottesville

Morgan Taylor and Taylor Pilkington ended their first date in May 2005 with pretty much the same opinion. “It was incredibly awkward,” says Taylor. Morgan chimes in, laughing, “It was weird … but he was really cute, so that helped.” The high school seniors—she from Richmond and he from Charlottesville—were introduced by a mutual friend who knew that both were headed to Centre College in Kentucky that fall. Thrown together on a blind double date, the pair managed to strike up a friendship, and after a year of sharing rides back and forth to Virginia on holiday breaks, they began dating. Seven years later, living in New York City, Morgan accepted Taylor’s proposal during a sunset walk across a beach on Long Island’s North Fork. It was important to the pair that the wedding venue reflect their Virginia roots. After saying their “I do’s” at the Charlottesville church Taylor grew up in, the couple’s reception was held at Montalto, which overlooks Monticello. Says Morgan, “We loved the feeling of being up on a mountain surrounded by the sublime views.”
