Sometimes when you meet the one person you are meant to spend the rest of your life with, you just don’t see it right away. For Mai Lan Aram and Alexander Lee, it actually took about a year. Both were students at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg in 2005 when they met through mutual friends. Alexander had just returned from a tour of duty as a U.S. Army infantryman in Afghanistan. “I never really thought of him as anything more than a friendly acquaintance,” laughs Mai Lan. When Alexander was sent on a second tour of duty, this time in Iraq, they stayed in touch, and by the time he returned, their relationship had blossomed. Living in Washington, D.C., the couple decided they wanted a rural setting for their wedding and chose the Salamander Resort and Spa in Middleburg. The dinner reception was held in the ballroom where a warm blush pink, peach and gold color palette played out in centerpieces of calla lilies and peonies. “The peach and pink uplighting and flowers just brought everything together perfectly,” says Mai Lan.
