Lauren Antle & Philip Townsend

June 28, 2014 • Norfolk Yacht & Country Club, Norfolk

Their meeting may have been of the digital age, but Lauren Antle and Philip Townsend’s story reads more like a classic. A dedicated Hampton Roads Channel 13 viewer, Lauren was surprised in November 2010 by a fresh face on the late-night newscast. Despite Lauren’s admission that she’s “terrible with Facebook,” she went out on a limb and sent the new reporter, Philip, a friend request. As fate would have it, only a day after Philip had accepted her request, they saw each other at a local bar in Norfolk. From then on, Lauren says, “It was very quickly taken offline.” Philip proposed in June 2013 at a picturesque Blue Ridge Mountain overlook. A perfect combination of ease and opulence, their June 2014 wedding was a beautiful homage to their childhoods by the water in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, but with hints of 1920s-era elegance. The couple chose the historic Wells Theatre for their ceremony, which lent the perfect amount of drama, balanced by the casual nautical undertones and views of the river at their reception at the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. Inspired, says Lauren, by art as disparate as Renoir’s “Luncheon of the Boating Party” and filmmaker Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, the reception mixed humor and refinement in its blue décor. “We wanted the day to feel very true to us,”  she says.
