Family and tradition are very important to Carter Tyrrell and Winston Read. Most of the meaningful moments in their lives together have hinged on both. First, there was their introduction at a Fourth of July party at Winston’s parents’ home in Midlothian. And although he chose the Homestead for the proposal in 2013, the couple determined that their wedding would be at the same home where they had met. Both of their parents were married at family homes, and Carter and Winston wanted to carry on the tradition. Says Carter, “We had wedding pictures of our parents and grandparents displayed on the gift table, and I carried my maternal great-grandmother’s handkerchief and my paternal great-grandmother’s monogrammed brooch on my bouquet.” The bride favors classic, simple styles and wanted the wedding to reflect that. Navy monograms covered everything from cocktail napkins, cupcakes and invitations to the bride’s reception shoes. “Details were important to me,” says Carter. “I wanted friends and family to walk in and say, ‘Wow, this really looks like Carter!’ And I think they did!”
