Virginia private schools celebrate a milestone.

Richmond’s Collegiate School is the latest of Virginia’s private schools to join the ranks of the centennial club, wrapping up its year-long celebration Nov. 5 with an evening with documentary filmmaker Ken Burns.
The school is the latest entry in a list of some of the Commonwealth’s most storied institutions. In the last five years, Richmond all-boys schools Benedictine College Preparatory (1911) and St. Christopher’s School (1911), all-girls Foxcroft School in Middleburg (1914) and co-ed St. Anne’s-Belfield in Charlottesville (1910) have each marked a century of education. Virginia is also home to the nation’s eighth oldest private school, Norfolk Academy—which, founded in 1728, is just three years shy of its 290th birthday.
