Celebrate National Tequila Day around the Commonwealth.
Although the exact origins of National Tequila Day in the United States are uncertain, one thing is clear: second only perhaps to Cinco de Mayo, July 24 is a day for celebrating fresh, citrus-laced cocktails. Here are some of our favorite spots to grab a margarita and other tequila drinks around the state.
The Bebedero, Charlottesville
Opening an hour early to really serve the needs of los patrones, The Bebedero will be serving its full lunch and cocktails menu beginning at 10 a.m. Be sure to try the Rosemary Dove or the Donde Estan Mis Pantalones (but don’t have too many, or you may be asking that question). TheBebedero.com
El Toreo, Roanoke
If lime’s not your thing, order El Toreo’s Catalina, a housemade margarita made with orange juice and honey. (You can skip the salt rim on this one.) ElToreoRoanoke.com
Magnolia’s, Harrisonburg
At Magnolia’s tacos and tequila bar, they’ll be celebrating with a Don Julio tap takeover. If you’re looking for more than a house margarita, try the Mexican Long Island with pineapple and rum, or the Tequila Mockingbird, with creme de menthe. MagnoliasTacos.com
Margarita Grill, Virginia Beach
Margarita Grill will host a happy hour between 3 and 5 p.m., featuring drink specials (of course) and $5 food highlighting apps and tacos from the restaurant’s Baja style menu. Facebook.com/MargaritaGrill
MoHo Kitchen + Cocktails, Alexandria
The folks at Morrison House will be mixing up specials using Casamigos tequila. Be sure to ask for the Fiery Ginger if you want something with an extra kick. MorrisonHouse.com
