Eastern Region

Mark Edward Atkinson

Between the ever-moving surface of the Chesapeake Bay and the seemingly endless horizon of the Eastern Virginia sky above, we can’t help but marvel at all that flies in the coastal skies: the white contrails of the Blue Angels in perfect formation at the Virginia Air Show; the column of fire behind a nighttime NASA rocket launch at Wallops Island; the swooping songs of cerulean warblers along the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail. Back on terra firma, Virginia’s Eastern region is dappled with temptations, like authentic colonial cocktails during a weekend of flavor and indulgence at the Taste Tradition in Williamsburg or fine local seafood at White Dog Bistro in Mathews. Finally, set the GPS for Irvington’s Tides Inn and head off to enjoy the gracious hospitality of the classic Virginia resort overlooking picturesque Carters Creek. There, with a clear view to the Rappahannock River beyond, light sparkling off the deep water, you will find the region at its best.
