What began in the most modern of ways—an online dating match—evolved into a traditional courtship for Roanoke native Brynn Boyer and Justin Lampert, an Ohio native living in Northern Virginia. So when Justin was visiting Brynn’s family over Labor Day in 2014, it seemed perfectly natural that he would be included in a trip to Mill Mountain for a family photo at Roanoke’s iconic neon star. “We were starting to pose, and I turned to see Justin on one knee proposing,” says Brynn. “It meant a lot to me that all of my family was there.” Family remained top of mind for both bride and groom during the wedding planning. “We kept saying that we wanted our children and grandchildren to be able to look at photos and have the wedding come alive for them,” says Brynn. Guided by an overarching “classic, timeless and simple” theme, Brynn chose a white lace sheath wedding dress complemented with an antique hairpin that had belonged to her late grandmother. After the wedding ceremony at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church—the same church where her parents had been married—the wedding party stopped at one of Roanoke’s downtown murals for a picture. “Something about that mural just says ‘Roanoke’ to me, and we thought it would be fun to include that in the memories of our day,” says Brynn.
