Red Wing Roots Festival, Mount Solon, July 11-13

Beards, flannels and fiddles abound at the Red Wings Roots Festival, the brainchild of Harrisonburg American roots band The Steel Wheels. Folk acts such as The Devil Makes Three play four stages, and activities, including group bike rides take advantage of the beautiful local terrain. Teens $39, adults $129, children 12 and under free. FloydFest, Floyd, July 23-27

For five days, 80 acres of the Blue Ridge Parkway host the epic FloydFest, which this year welcomes Ben Harper and Charlie Musslewhite, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Thievery Corporation and others to its three stages. Verizon Wireless American Music Festival, Virginia Beach, August 29-31

Lockn’: Interlocking Music Festival, Arrington, September 4-7
