Every May, something shifts on America’s roads. The car keys stay on the hook a little longer, helmets come down from shelves, and bike lanes fill with commuters, adventurers, and everyone in between. That’s the magic of National Bike Month—a tradition rolling strong since 1956, championed by the League of American Bicyclists.
The calendar gives you plenty of reasons to clip in: National Ride a Bike Day (May 4), Bike to Work Week (May 12–18), and Bike to Work Day (May 16) are your milestones. Communities all over the country, Virginia included, sweeten the deal with group rides, repair workshops, and mileage challenges through Love to Ride—and the League offers Bike Month Bingo and social media graphics to keep the fun going.
Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or just dusting off the Trek in the garage, May is your month. Helmet on, wheels down—enjoy the ride. BikeLeague.org
