The Richmond Home + Garden Show welcomes real estate mavens, design visionaries, HGTV stars, and twin sisters Leslie David and Lyndsay Lamb at the Richmond Raceway on Feb. 28 and March 1.
The sisters and co-hosts of HGTV’s popular series Unsellable Houses will bring their home and design expertise, sharing insights from their journey as real estate and design entrepreneurs, as well as some budget-friendly DIY home tips.
Unsellable Houses has had five seasons since 2019, and the dynamic duo has encountered many projects—they bring their expertise to “unsellable houses” and transform them into diamonds in the rough.
Q & A with Leslie David and Lyndsay Lamb
What was your favorite project so far?
It is very hard to pick a favorite, but one of our absolute favorites was the fifth-season finale. We were able to help one of our best friends and her husband renovate her home and capture the extra money she needed to move into a beautiful house closer to her grandkids.
What are some of your secrets for creating spaces that inspire and sell?
Selling is emotional, so creating spaces that tell a story to the buyer helps sell the home. You have to have the home staged and set in a way that speaks to the buyer. For example, if they are going to fall in love with the backyard, make sure you set up the barbecue, outdoor seating, yard games, extra flower pots, and even an outdoor table with dishes. Tell the story that they will be spending time and making happy memories in the yard.
What’s your favorite go-to design strategy that can transform any space?
Adding greenery brings a space to life. We love live plants, but even a really good fake plant can do the trick. It just brightens a room and brings outdoor life inside.
Anything else you want to add to help our Virginia readers and their home projects?
Start small by adding hardware to your cabinets, painting, or even sprucing up the front yard with flower pots. Don’t bite off more than you can chew at first, and build up to larger projects—get smaller ones done to build your confidence.
