Are your fingers at risk of falling off from constant swiping on dating apps? Consider throwing your phone into the sea—or simply playing a round of beer pong. For singles who are sick of never making it past the texting phase, insert Beer Pong Speed Dating. Founded by University of Richmond grad Jeff Hunt, these nationwide events help eliminate first-date jitters by bringing together fun people, inviting venues, and plenty of beer.
Elinor Reina, the taproom manager at The Veil Brewing Co.’s Richmond locations, is always looking for ways to help the local community make connections. Teaming up with Beer Pong Speed Dating in October 2025 was a natural continuation of that mission. “The event brought a welcome change of pace from our typical Sunday afternoons,” Reina says. “Folks were anxious but excited, and the game itself seemed to give people something to funnel that energy into, taking some of the pressure off the ‘first-date’ aspect.” Though only about 25 percent of attendees leave with a second date, it’s a great exercise in putting yourself out there.
With more people than ever seeking a return to real-life meet-cutes, it’s no wonder Beer Pong Speed Dating’s popularity is seeing steady growth. (It helps that entry is free! Upon arrival, participants receive a refund of their deposit.)
