Sunday mornings glitter at Godfrey’s drag brunch.
The bass is pumping, the sequins are sparkling and … omelets are being served? While waiters deliver mimosas and brunch fare, the drag queens at Godfrey’s Restaurant and Nightclub in Richmond offer a side of glitz and glamour at the restaurant’s famous drag brunch, now a tradition in the capital city. Performances by divas like Kirby Kolby (pictured above), 2012’s Miss Gay America, have been so popular that in 2013 Godfrey’s added a Saturday show in addition to its lineup of two Sunday seatings. Even so, shows book up faster than you can say stiletto, so make reservations well in advance.
Drag brunch is popular with the bachelorette party-set, but as Sunday show host and performer Heaven-Leigh Kennedy notes, everyone is more than welcome.
“It’s not gay, it’s not straight,” she says, “it’s just everybody!” GodfreysVa.com
