Knowing When to Pay Less

Fast or slow fashion—which one is for you?

Whether it’s fast or slow, fashion has a spot for you either way.

We all know that “you get what you pay for.” In the clothing world, luxury brands tend to sell well-made garments with high price tags, while fast fashion chains are known for stylish and affordable clothes that pill, pull, shrink, or shred after a few trips through the washer. Most people’s closets are a mix of both, so how do you know when to spend the extra money and when it’s better to choose the cheaper version?

Fast fashion mimics catwalk trends, but at much lower prices. The clothes are made quickly from cheap materials and aren’t designed to stand the test of time. If wearing the latest trends is important to you and you don’t need your clothes to last more than one season, fast fashion can help you stay up to date without breaking your budget.

If you prefer a timeless style and don’t like constantly replacing your clothes, then it’s worth the money to buy carefully crafted garments made from good-quality fabrics. Look for classic designs made from materials like wool, cashmere, silk, cotton, and linen—and then take care of your clothes by reading the labels and washing or dry cleaning as noted.
