It seems perfectly logical that “Best in Show” at this year’s Westminster Kennel Club was a Scottish deerhound from Warrenton: Like hunter/jumpers and English box, man’s best friend has long enjoyed revered status in the Commonwealth. This tradition stretches back into the 19th century with the founding of what is today the Richmond SPCA, which this year is celebrating its 120th anniversary.
