Wordy Thirty—Virginia Festival of the Book

  • Charlottesville

The Virginia Festival of the Book celebrated its 30th anniversary with a bookish bash for the decades: a Wordy Thirty Anniversary Party on Saturday, March 23, at the Bradbury and Vault on Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall. Notable invitees included headlining and featured authors Roxane Gay, Jeannette Walls, Adriana Trigiani, and Ada Limòn, who greeted Platinum VIP guests in a signing salon, which starred a featured cocktail: the “Lexicon Devil,” created by Harvest Moon; as well as a caviar station. The Gold VIP lounge and dance space was busy with tunes from DJ Double U and festival-goers, including dozens of other festival authors. Poets from the Charlottesville Poem Store typed bespoke verses in the VIP lounges, and local bookstagrammers mixed and mingled with guests and authors. The Virginia Festival of the Book brings thousands of people together each year, with this celebration a perfect penultimate night to this year’s event.

Rachel Beanland spoke about her novel, ÒFlorence Adler Swims Forever.Ó One fateful 1930s summer begins with a tragedy, sweeping three generations of the Adler family into a riptide of heartbreak and secrets in a shimmering story of the connections that bindÐand break.
