2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years of age, or the age of majority in your jurisdiction, to make purchases, enter contests, or sign up for our text message program. The Services may allow you to submit content such as comments, photographs, contest entries, editorial submissions, letters, or other materials (“User Submissions”). You retain ownership of your User Submissions. By submitting them, you grant Virginia Living a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual, and transferable license to use, reproduce, edit, publish, display, and distribute your User Submissions across our print, digital, and social channels in connection with the Services and our publication.
You represent that you own or have the necessary rights to your User Submissions, that they do not infringe the rights of any third party, and that they are not unlawful, defamatory, or obscene. We reserve the right to review, edit, or remove any User Submission at our discretion.
6. Subscriptions and the store
We offer print and digital subscriptions to Virginia Living magazine. When you purchase, renew, gift, or manage a subscription, you agree to provide accurate and complete payment and contact information, and you authorize us or our payment processor to charge the applicable amount, including any taxes. Subscription pricing, billing intervals, renewal terms, and cancellation procedures are disclosed at the point of purchase and through our subscription management portal.
Products purchased through the Virginia Living store at virginialivingstore.com, including current and back issues, plaques, and other merchandise, are subject to the pricing, shipping, return, and refund policies posted on that store. Those store policies govern your purchase in the event of any conflict with these Terms.
7. Contests, awards, and professional listings
From time to time we run contests, awards programs, reader polls, and professional listings, including Best of Virginia, the Made in Virginia Awards, the Cutest Pet Photo Contest, the Virginia Living Photography Awards, and our Top professional lists such as Top Doctors, Top Dentists, Top Wedding Vendors, and similar features. Each of these may be governed by its own official rules, which are made available at the time of entry or submission and which control in the event of any conflict with these Terms. By entering or submitting, you agree to the applicable official rules and confirm that you are eligible to participate.
8. Email and newsletter communications
When you sign up for VL Today or any of our other newsletters, you agree to receive email communications from Virginia Living. You may unsubscribe at any time using the link provided in each email. Unsubscribing will stop future newsletter emails but will not affect active print subscriptions or transactional communications. Your use of our email communications is also subject to our Privacy Policy.
9. Text message program
Virginia Living offers a text message (SMS) program. By providing your mobile number and opting in, you agree to receive conversational, informational, or promotional text messages from Virginia Living related to our products, services, and subscriptions.
The following terms apply to the SMS program:
Consent. Participation is voluntary. You opt in by providing your mobile number and affirmatively agreeing to receive messages through the form provided on our website. Your consent to receive text messages is not a condition of any purchase.
Message frequency. Message frequency varies based on your interaction with us.
Message and data rates. Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile carrier and plan. Virginia Living is not responsible for these charges.
Opting out. You can cancel the SMS program at any time by replying STOP to any message you receive from us. After you reply STOP, we will send one final message confirming that you have been unsubscribed, and you will no longer receive SMS messages from us. If you would like to join again, simply sign up as you did the first time and we will resume sending messages to you.

Carriers. Mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Privacy. We respect your privacy. The mobile information and SMS opt-in consent you provide will not be sold, shared, or transferred to any third parties or affiliates for any purpose other than delivering the messaging service you have requested.
