Mughal-inspired Limoges tableware
Are you in the market to upgrade your fancy tableware? A new line of Limoges dinner settings from Vienna-based Jacqueline Cambata Designs may be just the fix. It features Mughal empire motifs complete with elephants, egrets and colorful Persian patterns, with meticulous gold detailing. It’s all made in Limoges, France.
The design concept is a natural for Cambata: She was born in India and lived there until age 13. Cambata, who started her firm in 2002, says that her tableware was inspired by a specific period of Indian history—1556, to be exact—when the emperor Akbar, at age 13, began his reign over an empire that covered what is currently Northern India, modern-day Pakistan and Afghanistan. Akbar believed in painting [as] “a way to recognize a higher truth,” says the designer.
