Muddling is a mixology technique sometimes taken for granted—listed as an instruction on countless classic cocktail recipes with no explanation given for the amateur, at-home bartenders following along. Here are some cocktail recipes courtesy of MurLarkey Spirits.
MurLarkey Lemonito (stick muddled)
5 mint leaves
½ teaspoon sugar
2 lemon slices
1.5 ounce MurLarkey Lemon Whiskey
½ ounce triple sec
3 ounces fresh lemonade
1 ounce soda water or Sprite
Fresh mint and lemon slice, to garnish
In a shaker vessel or glass, add mint leaves, sugar, and lemon slices. Muddle gently. Then add ice, MurLarkey Lemon Whiskey, triple sec, and fresh lemonade. Shake well and strain into ice-filled choice of glass. Top with the soda water or Sprite. Garnish with fresh mint and lemon slice.
MurLarkey Irish Tea Julep (glass muddled)
2 ounces MurLarkey Three Tea Whiskey
4 ounces fresh lemonade
5 mint leaves
1 lemon slice
Fresh mint and lemon slice, to garnish
In a shaker vessel or glass with ice, add whiskey, lemonade, mint leaves, and lemon slice. Shake well and pour into choice of glass. Garnish with fresh mint and lemon slice.
