Gingerbread Stout, Hardywood Brewery
When Hardywood Park Craft Brewery’s Gingerbread Stout was first brewed in 2011, only a dozen or so people come to the initial release. “It was just a few of the real intense local beer geeks,” remembers Eric McCay, who founded the brewery earlier that year with lifelong friend Patrick Murtaugh. Soon, however, the secret was out. The next year, more than 1,000 stout-seekers lined up to receive the velvety smooth, spicy-sweet beer that had become the stuff of myth. (The beer became available statewide this year November 8.) Though the pair’s gingerbread-flavored vision has been a clear success, Murtaugh admits that they “were terrified that people were going to hate it.” But they were wrong. “It just seemed to come together so well. It gives people feelings of nostalgia.” $10.50 per 25-ounce bottle at the brewery. Hardywood.com
