The marching band stepped it up in London.
The Shenandoah University Marching Band made history with its first international performance at the 2025 London New Year’s Day Parade, joined by the Studio Big Band and cheerleading squad. The young marching band launched in 2022 with 73 members and has now grown to over 150 students.
Led by director of athletic bands Dr. Shaun Evans, the 145-student contingent and 10 alumni arrived in London on Dec. 27. Beyond the main parade performance, the Studio Big Band showcased their talents at Smith Square Hall and PizzaExpress Live as part of the London’s New Year’s Day Parade (LNYDP) concert series.
The LNYDP is a prestigious global event, drawing over 10,000 participants and reaching an international TV audience of 500 million. The two-mile route winds through London’s historic heart—from the Ritz Hotel to Parliament Square.
“This trip represents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our students,” says Dr. Evans. “We’re excited to share Shenandoah’s collaborative spirit with London and represent our university, Winchester, and Virginia on the international stage.”
The group’s itinerary also included exploring London’s landmarks, with visits to Windsor Castle and Hampton Court Palace. SU.edu
