The pros of getting your car professionally detailed

You can get your car prettified at a drive-thru car wash and then use their DIY-vacuums. Easy-peasy. So why would you pay for a car detailing service?

Zac Distel of Distel Detail, a mobile service based in Gloucester that serves the Middle Peninsula, says it’s a protection of your investment. Oftentimes, he says, automatic car washes do more damage than good, especially when it comes to the spin brushes. And are you really able to vacuum out all the mulch that’s been ground into your floor mats? Or Blue’s black fur that lives in the nooks and crannies of his back seat perch? The short answer is no. On the other hand, a lot of detailers are able to get the vehicle close to brand new again.

Distel says a thorough detailing “brings the vehicle value,” adding that it promotes resale too.

Pricing for inside and outside detailing can range from $250-400, Distel explains. It all varies based on whether kids and pets are part of the equation, plus factors like the car size and its overall condition. If it’s 10 years old and it’s never been cleaned, the price will be different from a car of a similar age that’s been well taken care of.
