New startup helps document cherished family possessions

Have you ever looked at an old family heirloom with a murky past and wished it could tell its story? Richmond-based startup Advent Legacy wants to protect future generations from that very experience.

“We understand the value of some possessions comes down to much more than simple monetary worth,” says founder Carrie Dorsey. “Our goal is to provide meaningful context to your most treasured belongings and preserve memories for future generations.”

The process begins with a meticulous—sometimes multiday—home walk-through with Advent Legacy consultants. They work with you to identify and photograph important items, then ask questions about their story and record your answers. Once everything is covered, the team conducts further contextualizing research, then organizes the information in a digitized color catalog with inbuilt space for additional comments and legacy wishes. Clients also get a physical copy held in an easy-access binder. Instagram:@adventlegacycatalog
