Billed as “400 years on one tank of gas,” the Journey Through Hallowed Ground heritage area is all about history that you can touch and feel. The JTHG comprises a 180-mile stretch from Monticello to Gettysburg, and includes 13 National Parks, more than 10,000 sites on the National Register of Historic Places, 49 National Historic Districts, nine presidential homes and numerous battlefields from the Revolutionary War, French-Indian War, War of 1812 and Civil War. With more than 100 wineries and breweries, travelers are never far away from a relaxing beverage (remember, George Washington brewed his own beer and Thomas Jefferson produced his own wine).
