Jeffrey S. Evans is a living legend among Virginia auction house professionals. He took the reins of Mt. Crawford’s Green Valley Auctions from his parents as a high school senior in 1979 and spent the next 30 years transforming it into a regional powerhouse.
Evans shocked industry insiders in 2009 when, at 49, he launched an eponymous consultancy—Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates—and cataloged auction house devoted to fine and rare historic art, lighting, glassware, jewelry, furniture, and more.
The company has since garnered a national reputation with commissions to sell high-profile collections. Recently, a treasure trove of historic American folk pottery that belonged to Alexandria-based brothers Albert and William Steidel was auctioned by Evans in 2024. The 1,050-lot was featured in Antiques and the Arts Weekly and included a 10-gallon, 1830 stoneware jar attributed to formerly enslaved Virginia artisan David Jarbour, which sold for $144,000.
