February 2018 Issue

In the February issue of Virginia Living, we invite you on a journey along the Virginia jazz highway—a route that takes us from one end of the state to the other limning some of the genre’s most influential artists and the cities they hail from. We meet the best friends behind Harrisonburg-based Jack Brown’s Beer & Burger Joint, Aaron Ludwig and Mike Sabin, and Chesterfield native Bryan Tucker, co-head writer in his 13th year at Saturday Night Live. We explore Eden Center in Falls Church, a hub of authentic Vietnamese cuisine, and we venture to Riviera Nayarit in Mexico, nearly 200 miles of beautiful coastline not yet on the beaten track. In food, Kendra Bailey Morris traveled the state talking to chefs about their favorite recipes for dishes that warm even in the deep chill of winter. We also introduce Virginia Living’s Top Retirement Communities, a list of more than 400 widely recognized independent retirement and assisted living facilities in the Commonwealth as well as 200 of the best active adult communities for residents 55 years and older.
