Immersive Learning Adventuresat Sullins Academy

Sullins Academy transforms education through carefully crafted field trips that complement classroom learning while igniting students’ natural curiosity. These excursions, both local and further afield, blend academic enrichment with hands-on experiences that students remember long after they return to campus.

Local cultural experiences include visits to the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, where literature comes alive on stage. Lower school students explore regional history at sites in Tennessee, including Cooper’s Gem Mine in Blountville, Rocky Mount Museum in Piney Flats, and the historic Oak Hill School in Jonesboro, while fourth and fifth graders journey to Colonial Williamsburg and Washington, D.C., deepening their understanding of American history.

Middle school adventures reach even further, with sixth graders launching into space science at Huntsville’s U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Alabama. Seventh and eighth graders alternate between coastal ecology studies at Tybee Island, Georgia, and aviation technology at Huntsville’s Aviation Challenge.

These experiential opportunities not only reinforce classroom lessons—they develop crucial life skills. Students practice good citizenship as theater audiences, gain confidence through hands-on activities, and build independence during overnight trips. Each adventure is thoughtfully designed to create memorable experiences that spark lifelong curiosity and love of learning. SullinsAcademy.org
