Burger Ballot

Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump? Good Stuff Eatery, which has five locations, including one in Arlington, has created two new burgers for election season, one to represent each major party candidate. Regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum, we can all agree on one thing: Both of these burgers look delicious.

As an “ode to the high life,” according to chef Max Albano, the Trump burger is piled with toppings like mushrooms sautéed in champagne vinegar and lemon truffle mayo. It’s topped with fried onion straws “to represent his hair,” says Albano, and Swiss cheese to hold it all together.

On the other plate is the Hillary burger, heavy on the spice because the democratic candidate is known for eating one chili pepper a day and carrying hot sauce in her purse. The burger features chopped habaneros with sautéed onions, peppery arugula, and to cool it down, Munster cheese and balsamic ketchup.

“We wanted to kind of represent each candidate the way we saw them,” says Albano.

Both burgers will hit the menus of all locations in September, and when they do, restaurant staff will track how many of each burger is served, and post the numbers daily to Facebook and the Good Stuff Eatery website.

It’s just for fun, of course, but with the Virginia location being so close to the nation’s capital, Albano says public response got pretty intense when they did this before.

“People would come in and be like, ‘Listen, I’m a democrat, and I want my vote to count for the Obama burger, but I want to try the McCain burger,’” he says, recalling the first time Good Stuff launched election season specials. Says Albano, “Guys, it’s just a burger.” GoodStuffEatery.com
