Artists are encouraged to explore this theme in unique and unexpected ways across various media.  Juror: Noah Scalin Artists delved into the essence of speed, motion, and competition. This theme celebrates the fusion of art and the exhilarating world of racing, offering opportunities to explore concepts like:
  • Vehicles in Motion: Depict the power, design, and precision of racecars.
  • Adrenaline and Energy: Capture the intensity of the race – the roaring engines, the thrill of victory, and the split-second moments that define a competition.
  • Human and Machine Connection: Highlight the relationship between drivers and their vehicles, showcasing the artistry of control, skill, and focus.
  • Tracks and Environments: Explore the textures, patterns, and atmospheres of racetracks, from the curves of the course to the vibrant colors of flags and crowds.
  • Symbolism of Speed: Use abstract or conceptual elements to evoke feelings of movement, time, and acceleration.
  • Cultural Significance: Reflect on how racing impacts society, culture, and communities, whether through iconic events like NASCAR, Formula 1, or local traditions.
10% of the commission will benefit Richmond Raceway Cares, which is the community arm of Richmond Raceway. Through partnerships with hundreds of organizations in Central Virginia, RR hosts special events and has strategic alliances that allow us to give a great deal of financial support to well-deserving groups in the Richmond area.   Awards 1st Place: Allen Bentley, Live Wire, Oil on Canvas, 32 x 84″, $9000  Live Wire explores the thrill of racing.
