Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra with Branford Marsalis

Three-time GRAMMY Award-winning saxophonist and NEA Jazz Master Branford Marsalis joins the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra in this special concert. An exceptionally versatile musician, Marsalis is a band leader, classical soloist, and film and Broadway composer. The Branford Marsalis Quartet, formed in 1986, has established a rare breadth of stylistic range. Marsalis is also equally at home performing concertos with acclaimed orchestras around the world and sitting in with members of the Grateful Dead. As a composer, he has scored films including Spike Lee’s Mo’ Better Blues, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, and Netflix’s Rustin. The Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra is made up of some of the D.C.-area’s finest musicians, led by founder and Artistic Director Jim Carroll. This concert also features vocalist Darden Purcell, George Mason University’s jazz program director
