Mayday on May Day: Francis Gary Powers and the U-2 Incident
Sixty-five years ago, May 1, 1960, pilot Francis Gary Powers was shot down over the Soviet Union while flying a U-2 spy plane. The incident increased tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union. Powers was tried, found guilty and sentenced to ten years in a Soviet prison.
