Gabriel Archer, a key figure in Jamestown’s early history, co-captained the Godspeed, the lead ship in founding the first permanent English settlement in the New World. While his vision of establishing the settlement at the mouth of the creek—“Archer’s Hope”—was overruled by Captain John Smith, our winery now stands on that very land, honoring Archer’s legacy. With Archer’s Ale, we’re toasting to the past and the present—right here on Wessex Hundred farm.
