These Virginia Cities are Tops for Retirees

The golden years are about living your best life in ways you prioritize—be it weather, cost of living, or access to amenities like restaurants, golf courses, fitness facilities, and healthcare.

With proximity to the mountains and coastline, Virginia is a nature lover’s mecca. And it’s one of the few states that counts Washington, D.C., as one of its closest neighbors, making its vast cultural opportunities accessible to many. Food-forward culinary scenes and other bonuses like museums and great shopping fill its cities and suburbs. Its reasonable cost of living also makes it a magnet for the retiring set.

It’s not surprising a handful of cities in the Old Dominion have been identified as top spots to retire, including Richmond, Roanoke, Charlottesville, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, Harrisonburg, and Falls Church. These distinctions come from several trusted sources, including Travel & Leisure, Forbes, Niche, and Bankrate.
